Increase in Skill – Shortage Vacancies

A report published today (28th January) by theĀ UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) reveals an increase of 43% of skill- shortage vacancies from 2013. Engineering and manufacturing roles, in particular semi skilled positions such as Machine Operatives were increasingly difficult to recruit for.

The report examined the experiences and practices of over 91,200 employers throughout the UK exploring the challenges they face in recruiting suitable new employees and managing the skills of exisiting staff. The number of employees active in the recruitment market (currently recruiting for at least one vacancy) had increased to 19%, up from 15% in 2013.
